Stangs to States (Actually this time)

On Tuesday, Febuary 10th, Monticello’s Varsity Swim and Dive team traveled to Christiansburg Aquatic Center, in Christiansburg Virginia, to compete in the Regional meet. This was their last chance to qualify for states.

The 200 yard Medley Relay, the 200 yard Freestyle Relay, and the 400 yard Freestyle relay on both the boys and girls side qualified for states, sending a perfect 6 out of 6 relays to states for the first time in Monticello Swim history.

Individually, Sam Crowell qualified in the 100 Yard Backstroke.  AJ Mincer qualified in the 100 Yard Butterfly, as well as Peter Tegethoff.  Brian Young and Kathryn Deane qualified in both the 50 Yard Freestyle, with Young also qualifying in the 100 yard freestyle.

In addition to those swimmers, the team will be sending Ava Burnsed, Kendall Walin, Julie Scholes, Allison Lang, Zach Daniel, and Danny Higginbotham to compete in team relays. Garrett Mooney will be also be participating in the State competition, being the lone representative from the diving squad.

The team will travel back to Christiansburg for states on Friday, February 20th.
