The junior varsity football team lost to Powhatan High School last Thursday, September 25th. The final score was 27-7. This was Monticello’s first JV game this season, and it came as a slight disappointment.
MHS players Cody Catlett, Jaden Crickenberger, Reid Huffman, and William Pistulka gave a few remarks. They all agreed that the MHS team has “a strong defensive line, and a fantastic secondary.” Reid Huffman also pointed out that the sideline support was a major factor in the one touchdown scored.
He went on to tell us that “Powhatan has a very strong offensive game, and they did a good job shutting down our offense.” William “the bulldog” Pistulka (one of the major defensive leaders) says our defense was “pretty good, but obviously did not get the job done against the Powhatan offense.”
The quarterback, Ben Riley, takes partial credit for the loss, seeing as he threw two interceptions, one of which was run back for a touchdown.
Although there were certainly some problems with the team last game, the JV squad is optimistic for the future. During their daily after-school practices, players say that they will work on their aggressiveness and tenacity in games to come.
William Pistulka also added, “This team has work to do- and work we will.”
